Weddings

We want to help couples have a Christ-honoring, lifelong marriage.

Bloomingdale Church is committed to marriage as a sacred institution, ordained by
God. The Scriptures teach in Matthew 5 & 19 that marriage is a life-time commitment and is entered into with much forethought and reverence.

We hope to help couples establish an enduring foundation and a practical commitment to
each other based on the Bible’s teachings.

Requirements: All are required, no exceptions.

The bride & groom have an initial meeting with one of the pastors to discuss their plans
and determine whether the couple meets the Scriptural criteria and the marriage can be
performed at Bloomingdale Church.

Attend five additional premarital sessions with one of our pastors and complete the So You’re Getting Married (Dr. Norman Wright) workbook. Written responses to all of the
questions in the workbook are due at the beginning of each session. Couples must bring
their workbooks to the counseling sessions.

The couple needs two copies of this book, a “His” version and a “Hers” version that they will write in as they complete the counseling sessions. DVD’s of supporting video lessons will be provided by the church at the first session. The textbook can be ordered through local bookstores or Grace Products at 1-800-527-4014.
Pre-marital Sessions:
Session 1: Initial Evaluation/Introduction
Session 2: Wright: Chapters 1 & 2
Session 3: Wright: Chapters 3 & 4
Session 4: Wright: Chapters 5 & 6
Session 5: Wright: Chapters 7, 8 & 9
Session 6: Wright: Chapters 10 & 11

Attend six (6) of our worship hours (Saturday 5:30 PM or Sunday at 8:30 AM or 11 AM) as a couple. Please fill out the Communication Card or sign the registration book each time to record your attendance.

Attend the Alpha Classes or Crown Financial Class. (www.bloomingdalechurch.org/adults)
All the above must be completed at least one month before the wedding.

Wedding Planning

The elements of the wedding ceremony include the recitation of the traditional wedding vows and a short personalized promise and generally takes about 30 minutes. A sample order of the service will be provided. Special elements that the couple would like to include in the ceremony can be added as long as they are in good taste.

It is the couples responsibility to make their own arrangements with musicians for the wedding. There is a piano and keyboard available in the sanctuary for the wedding. If they wish to utilize the church’s sound system is used, the couple needs to contract one of the church’s trained sound operator at least six weeks in advance. A practice with all of the wedding party, musicians and other participants is required the evening before the wedding.

All members of the wedding party need to be present at least a half hour before the wedding and on time for the rehearsal.

Arrange for someone to act as your lobby host to direct guests, collect any wedding gifts, and after the wedding to remove the bows, runners, etc.

Please inform your florist, musicians and photographers that the church office is open
Monday-Friday 9a-4p and Saturday from 7-10a. The aisle runner should be a least 80 ft. No real rose petals may be dropped on the floor since they stain the carpet. The center runner should be 100 feet.

Wedding parties may get dressed in a designated area, but no food or drinks are allowed (except water).

There is absolutely no smoking anywhere in our building. Smoke detectors located in every room will automatically trigger a loud alarm system and dispatch the fire department.

A $300 fee for the use of the sanctuary must be received in the church office by the second counseling session to reserve the wedding date. Make checks payable to “Bloomingdale Church.”  Church availability is on a first come first served basis, though church members families are given priority in the month of May and June each year.

All weddings on Saturdays (including clean-up) must begin be completed by 4p.
